Antwerp, Geeraert Smits 1574 woodcuts throughout [50] a few being duplicated . small Octavo (145x95) newer marbled calf on 4 raised bands housed in a modern faux leather splipcase.[tips of volume slightly rubbed] All edges darkened gilt. Titlepage supplied in pre Victorian times in handsome manuscript in red and black ink within ruled border. Publisher's details taken from the final index leaf. [9 of 10 ff thus lacking the first leaf of the Preface] + cclvi ff [lacking leaf 198 ] +3 leaves of index. All pages within ruled borders. The page numbers between Aa4 and Bb5 are erraticaly wrong but signatures and catch words follow on correctly. Some browning, minor soiling and gutter margin a bit tight but a very rare edition of the "Dutch Horulus animae", first edt of the prayer book was published in Strasbourg in 1498, but seemingly only 4 or 5 copies of this edt are traced. Printed in Gothic type within ruled borders with the calendar before the text printed in red and black. This edt was published just before the sack of Antwerp by the Spanish in 1576.
