Amsterdam, Lettergieterij Amsterdam v/h Tetterode, 1951. 4 x 54 mm. In dark brown mor. leather. Spine w. 4 single rule gilt lines, covers w. a single giltruled line on 3 sides. Complete with the 3 engraved 'letterstaafjes', each w. a surface of appr. 3.76 mm, the letters themselves with a height of 0.14 mm. Produced on the occasion of the 100 years anniversary celebration of the "Amsterdam" letter foundry, formerly known as N. Tetterode, in 1951. An agent of the firm in Munich, Waldmann & Pfitzner, took responsibility for the printing of the 3 'staafjes' and executed the binding in red leather, resulting in a tiny booklet no bigger than appr. 4 x 5 mm. All edges gilt. brown morocco and a tiny gilt cross on the upper cover. The Dutch version attracted so much attention that small editions were later made [in 1952, for the Gutenberg Museum fundraiser] in a number of foreign languages, including Swedish and Spanish. The engravers, it is said, could only work on the engraving during the night. During the day there was too much distraction and noise / tremour caused by passing cars and streetcars. The text, as one may understand, can only be read with the help of a strong magnifying glass. Bondi, p. 155: Spielmann 355:
