Complete w. the extra 3 leaves after p. 184. Originally published in 1601, this 1733 edition is the first produced by David Gaubius, professor of medicine and chemistry at Leiden. DSB vol. I, pp. 124 - 125: Alpinus (1553 - 1616) was managing director of the botanical gardens at Padua. 'The "Praesagienda vita" is a detailed study of prognostics in which attention is devoted to the patient's mental state and its bearing on health, as well as to the usual physical and diagnostic signs.': G&M 2194 (ed 1601): 'A classical work on prognosis': Norman coll. vol. I, item 40 (ed 1601): 'Boerhaave edited [wrote a preface] an edition ... in 1733 and stated in its preface that "there (is) nowhere to be found, a book fitter for promoting medicinal knowledge, and consequently none more worthy to be warmly recommended to students in medicine.': Waller, 371: Wellcome vol.
