Franequerae (Franker), Gulielmus Coulon, 1761, folio, without binding, some remnants visible along the spine from an earlier binding that has been lost, red sprinkled edges, [2]+72 pp., without binding, so the front (titlepage) and back (page 72) are smudged and worn, the sewing isn't solid with some pages coming loose, the last few pages are in fact missing (signature T). There is a woodcut vignette on the titlepage depicting the Frisian heraldic crest, there is a headpiece and there are some decorative initials. Anton Brugmans (1732-1789) was a Dutch physicist who proposed a two-fluid theory of magnetism. He was a student in Franeker from the age of 14 and graduated at 18. In 1756 he became a philosophy professor at the Franeker Hogeschool. This work is the printed version of his inaugural speech.
