Fourier (1768-1830). was a distinguished mathematician and physicist who was active in the French Revolution and went with Bonaparte on his Egyptian expedition in 1798. This first edition of Fourier's work on the theory of equations was published in 1831 after his death by Claude-Louis Navier. it contains much original matter, including a demonstration of Fourier's theorem on the position of the roots of an algebraic equation. Fourier is also generally credited with the discovery of the greenhouse effect involved with global warming.
