Day, Beth, - Grizzlies in Their Backyard.Surrey, B.C., Canada, Heritage House, (1994). 1st ed. VG PB. Day had heard stories all her life about the Stantons from her father who regularly visited them. In 1956 she met them and. spent weeks listening to their lives. The Stantons headed into 90-mile-long Knight Inlet on the B.C. Coast in June 1919 in a rowboat with a 2-1/2 horse motor, abandoning city life to seek contentment in the wilderness. They trapped, fished & hand logged. The first Christmas they were so poor Jim gave his wife a procupine. They both considered the grizzlies as friends, not enemies. One one time 4 of the big bears slept within 100 yardsof their cabin. Later Laurette raised 3 orphan grizzly cubs.
