An uncommon, regional booklet, featuring the lyrics of 16 patriotic songs and including "Marching Through Georgia," "The Battle-cry of Freedom," "From Mission Ridge," and others, it was published in conjunction with the 24th Annual State Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, which took place in Sioux City, Iowa, in June of 1898. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization, founded in 1866 in Illinois by Dr. Benjamin F. Stephenson, which encompassed veterans of the Union Army-, Navy-, and Marines, who had served during the Civil War.At the height of its enrollment in the early 1890s, it had more than 400 000 members, including women. The organization would be formally dissolved in 1956, after the death of its last member. Very good .
