Quires signed ¦ A-Gg in sixes, followed by quire Hh of 2 leaves. Largish paper flaws/holes (contemporary and not affecting text) in margins of front free endpaper, ¦1 (title-page), ¦2 (Dedication); A1, I3, R6 and Gg5 (Indice); most of the plates have unobtrusive paper repairs. Small ink blots in quire S and on the folding plate showing a bird's eye view of the Escorial; a few marginal 'nota' marks in pencil. Contemporary parchment, two ties, manuscript spine title; sprinkled red-edged leaves. ***** The classic description of the Escorial, one of the architectural master-pieces of Europe, constructed for Philip II from 1563 to 1593, by the architects Juan Bautista de Toledo and Juan Herrera. The enormous structure includes a convent, a church, a palace and a mausoleum.
