First French edition of Conde's history of the Arab rule in Spain. José Antonio Conde (1766-1820) was educated at the university of Alcalâ and became a member of the Spanish Academy in 1802. This his most important work presents for the first time a complete version of the history of Islamic Spain covering the period from the Arab invasion of Spain in 711 to the expulsion of the latter in 1492.
