Zobeide, his most successful play, was adapted from Voltaire's exotic tragedy, 'Les Scythes.' Voltaire paid it a compliment in a 1773 letter to Cradock: "Thanks to your muse, a foreign copper shines, Turned into gold, and coined in sterling lines."
