Very good full vellum binding with bright gilt decoration to both boards and spine. Corners lightly bumped. Spine and rear board a little soiled. Top page edges gilt (other page edges deckled ). Book plate to verso of the front board: "Gladys Gresham, Her Book From Mother dear 23-II-1907." Printed note to front free-endpaper: "This edition is limited to 320 copies for sale and 30 for presentation and review, of which this copy is No. 176 ". Half title reads: "The Late Troubles In England." Photogravure portrait frontis of "Charles 1". Title within ornamental border. Clean throughout. Some pages un-cut. Colophon to verso of the title: "Printed At The Russell Press, 20 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury". Clean throughout. VG. ** Excerpt from "Note On The Binding. By Cyril Davenport, F.S.A.": "..The binding chosen for the present edition of Dr Bates "Elenchus Motuum" is taken from that covering some Almanacks of 1624, which were bound together for Charles, Prince of Wales, and in which he has written some remarks and signed his name. In the centre are four impressions of the Prince of Wales triple ostrich feather badge within a coronet and with a blank label, arranged as a star. In each corner of the rectangle on each side is an ornament, practically forming a quarter circle, adorned with scrolls and the design of a heart, and the field is powdered with a semis of flaming hearts.
