An account dealing with the history, botany, zoology, the natives and the languages of Nyasaland (today Malawi). Sir Harry Hamilton Johnston (1858-1927) was a British explorer, botanist, artist, linguist and pioneer colonial administrator. He made several expeditions to different parts of Africa, he published several books on African subjects and he served as the first British consul general and administrator in Nyasaland (1891-5).
