With engraved extra title but issued without the portrait found in some copies. Contemporary full vellum, title in manuscript on spine, some staining to the covers. Old inscriptions on title and front free endpaper. The first edition of this important dictionary which became a standard reference work for Christian scholars in Jewish studies up to the mid 19th century. Johannes Buxtorf the elder (born 1564) devoted his life to the study of Hebrew and rabbinic literature. This dictionary is his last work which he worked on for more than 20 years.
