BARNES, ALBERT. - Notes on the New Testament: Explanatory and Practical, Matthew and Mark.

Grand Rapids, Michigan: Baker Book House August, 1981. 24th Printing. Hardbound 8vo (8.75 inches tall) 400 pages. Description: This work was originally published around 1832 and revised and recast in 1840; this Baker Book House edition was first published in January of 1949. Note: even though the title page states ''Enlarged Type Edition'', one has to wonder what it was enlarged FROM. The type size is quite small (scripture), and even smaller yet for the notes, and it's mostly notes. This will be difficult reading for those of us over a certain age. ''Barnes' notes is an all-purpose commentary. It embodies exactly those features which are valued and appreciated by ministers and laymen alike. Among these are (1) its verse-by-verse coverage of the Scriptural text, (2) its satisfying explanation of each verse, (3) its practical application of the teachings of Scripture to everyday life, and (4) the clear and understandable language of the commentary.'' BINDING/CONDITION: greenish-gray cloth with red and gilt; two small rubbed spots along the top edge, otherwise a Very Good book, with a Very Good dust jacket. ISBN: 0801005663
