MARQUARD, LEO (ED) - Letters from a Boer Parsonage : Letters of Margaret Marquard During the Boer War

Purnell, Cape Town and Johannesburg. 1967, First Edition. Hardcover, with dust jacket. 140 pages (complete). A sadly stored copy of the faithful Margaret Marquard. Of interest is that she once hosted Abraham Fischer (one time Prime Minister of the Orange River Colony), who was the grandfather of Bram Fischer, during the Boer War. The Heroic Bram Fischer defended (amongst others) Nelson Mandela at the Rivonia Trials, for which he was reviled by the white regime and sentenced to a singularly cruel form of life-sentence. This copy has been subjected to damp storage conditions. Consequently there is wear, there are stain marks The dustjacket is much worn, torn, scuffed and marked. It is stoic, intact. The boards have wear, scuffing and marks. They are steady and sure. The contents are much worn, marked. However, the pages are assured, competent, clear, certain, still keen. fk. Fair/Poor.
