HINDUS, MAURICE - Mother Russia

Collins / Shuter & Shooter, Pietermaritzburg. 1944, 1st Edition. Hardcover, with dust jacket. 446 pages (complete). The son of kulak who later moved to New York with his family on his father's death, Maurice Hindus was a useful facilitator of moderate views on Russia between and during the World Wars. He was careful to always distinguish between the Kremlin and the people. This book about his time in the Soviet Union during WW2 was along this vein. This copy is in general sound condition. The dustjacket is shabby and worn. The cover is dignified and neat. The pages (there is a gift inscription on the frontispage - not from the author) are clear, clean, approachable and assured. fk.
