With old marginal annotations in ink, one edge fayed without loss of text, Image available. ¶ Augustine of was Bishop of Hippo Regius (present-day Annaba, Algeria), Latin philosopher and theologian from Roman Africa and generally considered as one of the greatest Christian thinkers of all times. His writings were very influential in the development of Western Christianity. Johann Amerbach (b. c. 1440 in Amorbach, Germany; d. 25 December 1513 in Basel, Switzerland) , celebrated printer in Basel in the 15th century. He was the first printer in Basel to use the Roman type instead of Gothic and Italian; he spared no expense in his art.
