CECIL, THE HON MRS EVELYN ; MANNERS, LADY VICTORIA (ILLUS) - London Parks and Gardens

Archibald Constable & Co. Ltd, London. 1907, 1st Edition. Hardcover, with dust jacket. 384 pages (complete). A generous book from two very well connected women. Mrs Evelyn Cecil was Alicia Amherst - her mother was Margaret Mitford of the Northumberland Mitfords. Victoria Manners was the daughter of the Duke of Rutland and the elder sister of the stunningly beautiful and legendary Diana (who later married the diplomat Duff Cooper) - who became one of the most remarkable women of her generation. This copy has a shabby elegance. The covers and spine are much worn and scuffed. The gilt titling and decoration are demure but pretty. Inside, there is foxing throughout. However, the pages are clear, tight, genteel and sure. The illustrations are sweet, clean, bright and colourful. A kindly book. fk. Fair/No Jacket.
