First German edition, translated from the original English (London 1725) by F.C. Weber. John Windus participated in an expedition with Commodore Charles Stewart in 1720 to conlude a peace treaty with the emperor of Morocco on behalf of George I. In January the following year a treaty between Britain and Morocco was signed at Ceuta. At that time many Europeans were imprisoned in Morocco because of piracy, but thanks to the peace agreement many English slaves (including some captains) were released.
