- 749. GUANAJUATO WATER CARRIER.

(Mexico City): Waite Photo. Original cabinet photograph, 8 x 5 inches, on plain card mount. 1904. Near fine, with slight fading at top. Depicts man in sombrero carrying on his back a large, probably steel, water container of several gallons volume, with a smaller pitcher strapped on. He is standing in a cobblestone ally leading uphill to buildings with windows in background. He carries a long leather bag at his waist for holding money taken in selling water in the streets. Print in the University of Texas Library is dated Dec. 14, 1904. C. B. Waite (ca. 1860 - 1929) was a prominent Mexico City photographer at the turn off the century. Prior to moving to Mexico he worked in Los Angeles, California and New Mexico in the 1890s.
