London: G. W. Bacon & Co., ca. 1899. Large folding view map in colors, showing South Africa, with insets of "Mafeking to Pretoria" and "Northern Natal." 26 3/4 x 34 inches. In paper covers with title on front. A few short tears along folds, light soiling to covers, else very good. Issued at the beginning of the Boer War, this colorful birds-eye view map shows mountain ranges, rivers, cities and towns, railroads and wagon roads, etc. Pasted inside front cover is a 7 pp. pamphlet: THE SOUTH AFRICAN CRISIS. The chronology in this pamphlet ends with the declaration of war, October 11, 1899. Two final pages of ads for Bacon list their war maps including this one (printed in seven colors) and battle pictures from the Battles of Dundee (October 20, 1899) and Elands Laagte (October 21, 1899). Very scarce.
