Thayer, Eli - Hancock Jeffersonian -Supplement. The Suicide of Slavery. Speech of Hon. Eli Thayer, of Mass. Delivered in the House of Representatives, March 25, 1858[Findlay, Ohio], [S.A. Spear], 1858. First edition. Removed. 8 pp. 8vo. Rather than giving speeches, Eli Thayer (1819-1899) felt emigration could overturn slavery, and to this end raised funds to move northern men and anti-slavery proponents into territories and border states to swing the popular vote. He would later argue, it was this work, rather than the speeches of the abolitionists, that freed the slaves. A rare variant printed as a supplement to the Hancock Jeffersonian. Not at AAS. This edition not in LCP. Afro-Americana or Dumond. A very good copy, a few small soiled spots and a mail fold.
