The book is in Very Good- condition and wa issued without a dust jacket. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light bumping , rubbing and light creasing. There is a previous owner's inked name on the front cover. The text pages are generally clean. There is some tidemarking to the top edge of the first 20 or so pages, that doesn't affect the text. "In 1818, Thomas Jesup became the Quartermaster General, and he remained in that position until 1860. As a combat veteran, Jessup understood the importance of support to frontlineSoldiers; and he instituted practices and policies that have lasted until this day. According to Jesup, a Quartermaster at any level was first a military position, which required Soldiers familiar with military requirements. Yet he alsoinsisted upon strict standards in accounting. All Quartermaster Soldiers kept detailed records, which were subject to regular audits. He instilled a sense of purpose and professional pride within the Quartermaster Department.
