First edition of an interesting account of the Basutos describing habits, social and domestic life, government, religious ideas, superstitions, literature and music. Eugène Casalis, French Protestant missionary who spent 23 years in Southern Africa. He arrived at Cape Town in 1833 and participated in establishing a French Protestant Mission in Moriah, Lesotho. Casalis settled in Thaba-Bosis near Mohesh (Lesotho). Mendelssohn I, p. 307.
