Corners and extremities of binding a little rubbed - but still an excellent example of this exceptionally rare Louis Wain/Beatrix Potter compilation. A wonderful and unrecorded example of Louis Wain's art including a super double-page color illustration "The Cats' Circus" and seven other illustrations by him including three in color. The Beatrix Potter color illustration on [p. 60] was until recently unrecorded. "A Classic Nister compilation, particularly significant however for until recently unrecorded illustrations by Beatrix Potter, depicting a rabbit stepping out into a wintery scene with an umbrella at the ready. The oval design is a companion to the watercolour sold at Bonhams in 1997. The rabbit is in identical jacket with the same basket on his arm. Here he is putting up his umbrella, while in the drawing he is leaving with the umbrella raised, watched by his wife." (Bloomsbury Auction. Beatrix Potter collection of John R. Cawood.
