Handsome first edition of this popular Civil War fiction that apparently got the bestselling novelist in hot water with "Stonewall" Jackson's widow. Superb, pristine Wyeth color plates. Johnston (1870-1936) was not only a prolific writer but also a noted Virginia women's rights activist. A wonderful copy. .
