Braj Bhakh (or Braj Bhasha) language is a Western Hindi language. It was one of the two predominant literary languages of North-Central India before the switch to literary Hindustani in the 19th century. A great deal of the Hindi literature was developed in the Braj in the medieval period, and much devotional poetry is in this language. Ballantyne, Scottish-born orientalist who was superintendent of the Sanskrit College in Benares (Varanasi) 1845-61. He published several grammars of different Indian languages. Vater p. 165.
