Wrappers to volume one with some wear, chipped along edges. Comprises interesting and valuable essays and articles treating various subject related to the Far East, preceded by "Mélanges asiatiques" (1825-26). The first volume treats China and its inhabitants and literature, followed by chapters about Cambodia; the Japanese islands; the people of Tibet and Bukhara; a collection of Japanese accounts prepared by Titsingh; the British commerce in Canton (Staunton); acupuncture; and the Japanese grammar (Rodriguez); the history of the Mongols, etc. The second volume comprises: 1. "Études biographiques" including short accounts of famous Chinese emperors, ministers, historians, foreign missionaries, etc. and; 2. "Sur la philosophie des Hindoues d'apres les memoires de M.
