He was a keen collector of naval history and of eighteenth-century literature in contemporary bindings. In straight grain morocco bindings, with extensive gilt detailing. Externally, excellent. Rubbing to back strip tails, and a touch of rubbing to joints. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Bookplate to volume I front pastedown. Former owner's inscription to a front blank of each volume.
