Brussels , Societe Belge De Librarie, 1842. Hardback. A scarce early French language edition of this novel by Balzac. Part of his La Comedie Humaine series, this work parodies and depicts French society during the period of the Bourbon Resoration and July Monarchy. Contains ink inscription to front board from one M. Delcourt and inkstamp. In paper boards with brodart wrapper. EXternally quite smart, the front hinge has failed completely and the board is detached from spine. There is also minor rubbing and age wear to the boards and extremities. Internally, the binding is fragile but holding and the pages are bright and clean aside from the usual foxing to endpapers.
