Ink inscription to the front free end paper. Lucy Beatrice Malleson (1899-1973) was an English crime writer under the pen name Anthony Gilbert. Many of her books were adapted into films. This is one of her later crime novels published by Collins for The Crime Club, featuring the vulgar lawyer-detective Arthur Crook, who browbeats witnesses to get the results he needs for his clients. This exciting tale follows a vulnerable girl in the hands of a criminal organisation, and Crook's attempts to secure her safety. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting to the end papers and the odd spot to the fore edge.
