The fables are moral tales that guide in religious and secular aspects of life, following adventures of many different creatures.Both volumes are colourfully illustrated throughout by Christopher Sanders.Bound by Eric Sweet, a keen collector of private press and fables. He studied at the Brighton College of Art, before moving to London to work as a lettering artist and typographer for advertising agencies, later becoming the head of Birmingham School of Printing. Sweet's bindings are unique and striking, reflecting the topics of the volumes in distinctive style.Both volumes have three pages of adverts to the rear. One copy is in the the original publisher's cloth binding, and the other copy is rebound in a quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards, by Eric Sweet, together in a custom cloth clamshell. Externally, the original publisher's cloth is generally smart, spine is faded. with light rubbing to the spine and extremities, and marks to the boards. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The rebound copy is fine externally, with hinges reinforced. Internally, firmly bound.
