Charles Reade (8 June 1814 – 11 April 1884) was an English novelist and dramatist, best known for The Cloister and the Hearth. 'It Is Never Too Late to Mend' was first published in 1856, and was later turned into a play. It tells the story of a ruthless squire who becomes obsessed with a younger woman and conspires to have her lover framed and sent to jail. In a half calf binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with some shelfwear only. Fading to the spine. Hinges slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound although the first and last few pages are detached from the rest of the textblock. Some spots to the endpapers but otherwise generally clean. Small stain to fore-edge. Ink inscription to first blank, dated 1917. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
