Written by Pierre Jules Theophile Gautier, a French poet, dramatist, novelist, journalist, and art and literary critic. Illustrated by Paul Gustave Dore, a French printmaker, illustrator, painter, comics artist, caricaturist, and sculptor best known for his prolific output of wood-engravings illustrating classic literature. Bound in half crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot or handling mark. Light age toning to the endpapers.
