An abridged biography of the Catholic saint Élisabeth de Hongrie or Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231), ruler of Thuringia and a member of the Franciscan Third Order, written by the French historian Charles Forbes René de Montalembert (1810-1870). Elizabeth of Hungary was known for her charity to the poor and for 'The Miracle of the Roses&apos. This biography was a success, encouraging the publications of many other hagiographies. In a quarter calf binding. Externally fairly smart, with some fading and shelf wear to the extremities and rubbing to the joints. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are heavily spotted throughout.
