With 75 plates and a folding map to the rear. Collated, complete. Illustrations to this work are by the English watercolour landscape painter and illustrator, Harold Sutton Palmer. Sutton Palmer was from Plymouth in Devon and studied at the Royal College of Art. He was hired by A and C Black to illustrated many travel works as he specialised in idyllic rustic landscapes painted in watercolours. To this work there is textual accompaniment by the Scottish author, Ascott Robert Hope Moncrieff. Moncrieff penned several works on myths, legends, travel and more. This is a reprint from 1912. Loosely inserted is an advertisement leaf for this series. A beautifully presented work, in a lovely decorative cloth binding. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with bumping to the head and tail of spine. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Loosely inserted is an advertisement leaf for this series.
