 1568798035,
Nottingham, Norris & Cokayne, 1881. First edition. Cloth. A lovely first edition and very scarce copy of Millhouse's songs and sonnets, in a decorative cloth binding. A first edition and very scarce copy of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the front board. All edges gilt. Library stamp to the verso of the title page. Illustrated with a frontispiece and a headpiece for each poem. Robert Millhouse (1788–1839) was an English Spenserian poet, who obtained some fame as a provincial poet, though his own life was affected by his serial marriages, ill-health and poverty. This collection of Millhouse's songs and sonnets includes his better-known poems 'To Sherwood Forest' and 'Song of the Patriot', and a brief biography of the poet by the editor John Potter Briscoe. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with a little bumping to the extremities and the rear board, and wear to the head of the spine. Front hinge is a little tender, but remains reasonably firm. Page 45/46 is coming loose, but otherwise volume is firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Front free end paper is somewhat abraded. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
