With a portrait frontispiece and vignette to the title page. The collected twenty-four short stories of the Canterbury Tales. Written in Middle English between 1387 and 1400, the tales are mostly told in verse, presented as a story-telling contest between a group of pilgrims as they travel from London to Canterbury. Written by Geoffrey Chaucer, an English poet, author, and civil servant, considered the "father of English literature" for this work. With illustrative notes by Thomas Wright, an English antiquarian and writer remembered as an editor of medieval texts. In the original orange cloth wraps. Externally, sound with rubbing to the extremities and the odd small crease to the board tips. Light discolouration to the cloth with the odd mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and minor age toning to the extremities. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
