Published in French. The French poet and essayist René François Armand 'Sully' Prudhomme was the first winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1901. The present work contains the poet's translation of the first book of Lucretius's De Rerum Natura, which explored the principles of atomism, the nature of mind and soul, and reflections on sensation and thought. In an essay entitled La Justice to the rear of the volume, Prudhomme sets out his philosophy. In a blue half calf binding over patterned boards. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, with a chip in the calf to the top edge at the front board. A little rubbed to the joints, and the head and tail of the spine, with some moderate wear towards the extremities. The volume is lacking the spine label. The front hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light foxing to the front of the volume, pages are bright and clean. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
