Page 20 is misnumbered 22.'The Art of Preserving Health', by John Armstrong, the first edition, the issue with the price beneath the imprint to the title page. ESTC citation number T187239. 'The Pleasures of Imagination' is a long didactic poem. The poem discusses the power of imagination, and how pleasure can be derived from the perception of beauty, how imagination is distinguished from philosophy, and also the pleasure to be found in the study of man. The poem was inspired by Joseph Addison's essays on imagination published in 'The Spectator&apos. Written by Mark Akenside, an English poet, who had the idea from the poem on a 1738 visit to Morpeth.'The Art of Preserving Health' was the author's first great poetical success, a masterful poem written in blank verse and dealing with the heavy subject of death, including a passage on the plague. Collated complete. In a quarter calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing to the boards resulting in a little loss of paper. Crack to the tail of the front joint, and smaller cracks to the tail of the rear joint and to the head of the joints. Light rubbing to the spine and a small amount of loss to the head and tail. Extremities are bumped. Stamp to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with a few scattered spots. Ink note to the head of the half-title of 'Imagination&apos. Ink note to the title page of 'Imagination' and pencil note to the title page of 'Health&apos. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
