Now housed in a custom orange cloth chemise, with redish-orange half leather slipcase. Divers paginations. Illustrated with the original wood engravings. Frontispiece portrait of Dickens to January issue. 8vo. 8-7/8" x 5-3/4" A four part story narrated by children, including "The Magic Fishbone", as told by Alice Rainbird. "The stories are interestingly different from the Children's Literature of their day. With their affected hostility to adults and descriptions of the romantic attachments of childhood they foreshadow Kenneth Grahame's The Golden Age (1895)." [Schlicke. Oxford Reader's Companion to Dickens, p. 275]. Uncommon in the original monthly issues. Wear, soiling & chipping to wrappers. A Good set housed in a VG+ chemise/slipcase, which has the bookplate of Eustace Conway.
