London , The Studio Limited, 1935. Tall quarto, with original dust-wrapper (printed black and red) tipped-in inside. c. 100 b/w and some colour illustrations. In good condition although cloth a little worn at edges, dust-wrapper removed and pasted neatly along inner hinge. George (D'Oyly) Snow's name to f.e.p. dated Eton 1935, with a note tipped-in the back inscribed "G.S. in gratitude Julian Pitt-Rivers". Studio Magazine, founded by Charles Holme, was influential in Europe promoting such names as Lasenby Liberty and Charles Rennie Mackintosh to a wider audience. It exerted a major influence on the Arts and Crafts Movement and Art Nouveau at the beginning of the century and later furthered Modernism and 'Good Design'. This 1935 'Special Number' introduces, to an English speaking audience, some of the greatest names in post-revolutionary Russian art: including an essay by A Chegodayev on contemporary graphic art, featuring a Kunetsov frontispiece in colour, b/w reproductions by Cosma Petrov-Vodkin and Alexander Deineka, posters by Deineka and Klutses and much else. .
