Jules Michelet (1798-1874) was a French historian and writer, best known for his Histoire de France. He is considered one of the founders of modern historiography, and even coined the word 'Renaissance&apos. This work, originally published in French in 1868, was the last of his natural history works. It focuses on mountains, with chapters on famous mountain ranges such as the Pyrenees and the Alps, and intersperses facts with personal experiences to create an engaging read. This English language edition was translated by W. H. Davenport Adams. Illustrated with fifty-four illustrations from designs by Percival Skelton. Collated, complete.
