Cartan, É. - La géometrie des espaces de Riemann.

Paris, Gauthier-Villars (for the Académie des Sciences de Paris), 1925. 8vo (25.2 x 16.5 cm). Half title (to the series), title page; 57 pp. Original printed wrappers. = Élie Joseph Cartan (1869-1951) "did fundamental work in the theory of Lie groups, differential systems (coordinate-free geometric formulation of PDEs), and differential geometry. He also made significant contributions to general relativity and indirectly to quantum mechanics. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest mathematicians of the twentieth century ... Cartan showed how to use his concept of connection to obtain a much more elegant and simple presentation of Riemannian geometry. His chief contribution to the latter, however, was the discovery and study of the symmetric Riemann spaces, one of the few instances in which the initiator of a mathematical theory was also the one who brought it to its completion" (Wikipedia). Offprint (Fascicule IX) from Mémorial des Sciences Mathématiques. Handwritten dedication written and signed by Cartan to "mon collègue" ... Moulins. Uncut. Light creasing to top margin, otherwise very good.
