'Arms and the Man' is a long, satirical poem surrounding events at the Jacobite Rebellion, an uprising attempted by Charles Edward Stuart to regain the British throne, taking place in 1745. As noted by David Foxon, this satirical piece was written with the aim to make fun of both sides of this rebellion, with light mocking directed at Oglethorpe, Prince Charles, Wade and other prominent figures involved. Joints are torn, with the title page and final page holding just to the head of the front joints. Internally, tender, with front and rear pages almost disbound.
