First published in America in 1973. Illustrated by Edward Gorey with a monochrome frontispiece and many monochrome vignettes and full page illustrations. In the publisher's original cloth with the original very scarce unclipped dust wrapper. This children's mystery novel was written by the American author, John Bellairs, and is the first in the 'Lewis Barnavelt' series. The novel follows Lewis Barnavelt, a young orphan, who goes to live with his mysterious warlock uncle, and the clock which is hidden inside the walls, ticking away as it tries to destroy the world.The novel was adapted to film in 2018 starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. In the publisher's original cloth with the original clipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely.
