 1566258326,
Nashville, TN, Board of Education of the United Methodist Church, 1972. Wraps. Color illustrated card stock wrappers. 64 pp. Illustrations throughout. A magazine with a countercultural and left wing stance, produced by the United Methodist Church. It combined religious teachings and philosophy with progressive perspectives on racism, women's rights, anti-war movements and other subjects. Founded in 1941 as the official magazine of the Methodist Student Movement, it published until 1972. Acclaimed for its avant-garde and editorial vision, the magazine eventually ceased publication under pressure from Methodist Church officials due to its stances on Civil Rights, gender issues and the Vietnam War (see BU's School of Theology website for previous info). This is the second to last issue, focusing on lesbian and feminist subjects. Includes front cover art by Ginger Legato, interior art by Joyce Sills. Printed by an all women's press, the Sojourner Truth Collective. Articles include: what every lesbian should know; Edward the dyke; poetry by Rita Mae Brown; notes of an old gay; bringing up children in the gay community, etc. GOOD condition. Rear cover foxed and toned. Minor soiling and fading. Minor toning to the front cover. Last name in ink on the upper front cover. Text block rather browned. Good .
