Born in the manse of Borthwick in Midlothian in 1721, William Robertson was an ordained minister of Lady Yester's church in Edinburgh. Horace Walpole, commenting on Robertson's earlier work, praised his style as 'uncommonly good'. He became principal of Edinburgh University in 1762 and, two years later, the King's historiographer. A noted Scottish historian of his time, Robertson's later work on Charles V was highly praised by Voltaire and Gibbon. This book on India was his last major project before his death in 1793.. Return policy;
We run a 'no quibble' returns policy.
If we have made any error of collation or missed any significant flaw, or if we have failed to describe the condition honestly and accurately, we refund the cost of the book in full, plus the cost of outward shipping, plus the cost of your return shipping.
If you wish to return a book for any other reason, We refund the cost of the book, less a £5 handling charge. The cost of outward shipping is not refunded. The return shipping, and insurance, is at your expense.
In all cases, the returned book must be in our hands within one calendar month of the original sale, though exceptions can be made to this rule in special cases.
Any new damage suffered by the book will be charged pro-rata.
