Ritter, Dr. F. L. (Frederic Louis), Director - Vassar College School of Music. Soiree Musicale, Monday Evening, June 11, at Eight O'Clock, 1883

Poughkeepsie, New York, s. n. 1883. First Edition. Program; 8 1/2 x 5 1/2; pp. [4]; off-white stock, printed in black; several old creases and a tiny spot to upper margin; in very good condition. A musical performance announcement and program, it was led by renowned German-American scholar and educator Frederic Louis Rutter (1832 - 1891). Immigrating to the US in 1850, he would establish the Cincinnati Philharmonic Society and the Cecilia Choral Society. He would then move to New York, where he would conduct the first music festival in the city at Steinway Hall in 1867. That same year, he would join the Vassar College faculty as Head of the School of Music. Beloved and revered by his students and colleagues, Ritter would teach piano, composition, music theory, and singing, and would co-write numerous books together with his wife Fannie Raymond - an accomplished musician in her own right. Very good .
