Iuryi Tys, pseud. for Iuryi Krokhmaliuk (1904 - 1994), was a Ukrainian historian, author, publisher, and journalist. Educated as an engineer, he also served in the Polish Army and was later arrested as a member of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. He founded the Lviv publishing house "Iunatska shkola." After the Second World War, Tys spent time in Austria and Germany, before emigrating to Argentina in 1947. While working as a chemical engineer in Buenos Aires, he co-founded the Union of Ukrainian Scientists, Artists, and Writers in Argentina. Tys moved to the US in 1961, where he would become Chairman of the Institute of Ukrainian Culture and would edit the journal "Terem." Throughout it all, he was a prolific author of historical fiction, humorous stories and plays, and children's books. The wraps were designed by famous painter and universally-recognized as one of the best Ukrainian graphic artists Boris Kriukov, aka Boris Kriukow (1895 - 1967). He illustrated over 500 books during the interwar period, including those of Shevchenko, Franko, Zabila, etc. After emigrating to Buenos Aires in 1948, he worked for various Ukrainian and Argentine publishing houses and executed the stunning apsis mosaic of The Virgin and Child for the Ukrainian Cathedral in the city, which would be his last completed work. Very good .
